Jimmy Hamilton was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, who was a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Having learned to play piano and brass instruments, in the 1930s he started playing the latter in local bands before switching to clarinet and saxophone. During this time he studied with clarinet teacher Leon Russianoff.

Johnny Hodges (by name Cornelius “Johnny“Hodges) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, best known for solo work with Duke Ellington´s big band. He played lead alto in the saxophone section for many years. Hodges was also featured on soprano saxophone, but refused to play soprano after 1946. He is considered one of the definitive alto saxophone players of the big band era (along with Benny Carter).

Russell Procope (by name Russell Keith Procope) was an American clarinetist and alto saxophonist who was a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He attended school with Benny Carter. His first instrument was the violin, but he switched to clarinet and alto saxophone. He began his professional career in 1926 as a member of Billy Freeman's orchestra. He recorded with Jelly Roll Morton at the age of 20.

Harry Carney (by name Harry Howell Carney) was a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist who spent over four decades as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He played a variety of instruments but primarily used the baritone saxophone, being a critical influence on the instrument in jazz.

d. October 8, 1974 in New York.
