Zoot Sims (by name John Haley “Zoot“ Sims) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor but also alto (and later soprano) saxophone. . Growing up in a performing family, he learned to play drums and clarinet at an early age. His Brother was the trombonist, Ray Sims.
b. October 29, 1925 in Inglewood, California.
d. March 23, 1985 New York.
Al Cohn (by name Alvin Gilbert Cohn) was an American jazz saxophonist, arranger and composer. He came to prominence in the band of clarinetist Woody Herman and was known for his longtime musical partnership with fellow saxophonist Zoot Sims.
b. November 24, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York.
d. February 15, 1988 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
