Howard McGhee was one of the first American bebop jazz trumpeters, with Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Navarro and Idress Sulieman. He was known for his fast fingers and high notes. He had an influence on younger bebop trumpeters such as Fats Navarro.

b. March 6, 1918 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
d. July 17, 1987 in New York.
